The Audition Process

1. Submit an Audition Request

Click the link above and follow the instructions on the form. After you complete and submit the form, an Army Music audition coordinator will get in touch with you.

2. Submit a recording and a performance resume

After you have submitted your audition request. Your audition coordinator will provide you instructions on how to submit your recording and resume.

3. Contact your local Army Recruiter

In order to audition for the Army Music program you must meet all Army eligibility requirements. Contact your local Army recruiter to begin the screening process, which will include a physical exam and standardized testing. Your recruiter will also be able to answer any questions you may have.

4. Schedule the time and location of your audition

After your recruiter has finished the pre-screening process, you will be able to schedule your audition with your audition coordinator. The audition coordinator will travel to you or to a convenient location for the audition.

5. Complete your audition and await your results

Upon successful completion of your audition, you will be considered for available positions on a monthly selection panel. The panel will select the top-scoring applicants for each instrument, depending on current vacancies for that instrument.

If you are selected for the Army Music Program, your recruiter will schedule you to complete the enlistment process.

If you are accepted into the Army Music program, you will enlist for Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 42R Army Musician. You will complete nine weeks of Basic Combat Training (BCT), where you will learn the fundamentals of being a Soldier

After Basic Training, you will complete a 10-week course at the U.S. Army School of Music in Virginia Beach, Va. Here, you will learn how to apply your musical skills to the job of an Army Musician. Once you have completed this course, you will report to your first band and begin your career as an Army musician.

ARMY RESERVE AUDITIONS

If you are interested in serving as a member of an Army Reserve band, you must follow these steps:

1. Contact the Army Reserve band that is closest to where you live and ask about vacancies and audition requirements.

2. Contact your local Army Reserve recruiter to start the process of joining the Army.

3. Schedule your audition with your selected unit.

After your recruiter has determined you are qualified for service, and you have passed your audition, you will sign a contract and be assigned a training departure date.
