LTC Jason O. DeGeorge

Professor of Military Science

LTC Jason O. DeGeorge is the chairperson for the Department of Military Science and the MS IV instructor. He is a Distinguished Military Graduate from Minnesota State University ROTC, commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in May of 2001 into the Aviation Branch. He is a Master Aviator with over 16 years of experience in Army and Special Operations. He has served in multiple positions from PL through CO CDR, BN XO, and S3. He served as Service Chief Fellow with the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA) in 2014. In 2015 he was selected for the Joint Special Operations Master of Arts Program with National Defense University. In the spring of 2017 he became the Professor of Military Science at MSU. He has over 9 combat deployments and multiple operational deployments across the globe.

MSG Keith Barber

Senior Military Instructor

MSG Keith Barber is the senior military science instructor for the Spartan Battalion and the Assistant MS IV instructor. He has been in the United States Army for over 20 years. As an Artillery Noncommissioned Officer, he has held every leadership position from Forward Observer to First Sergeant. MSG Barber has five deployments in support of combat operations in both Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

CPT Christopher Emmons

MS III Instructor/ Operations Officer

CPT Christopher Emmons is the MS III instructor and operations officer for the Spartan Battalion. He has 17 years of service in the Army, of which he spent 10 years enlisted before attending Officer Candidate School (OCS). He is a Distinguished Military Graduate from Army OCS, commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in March of 2010 into the Infantry Branch. He has served in multiple positions from PL through CO CDR. He holds a Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership. In the Summer of 2017 he became an Assistant Professor of Military Science at MSU. He has 2 combat deployments and one Regionally Aligned Forces (RAF) deployment.

SFC Ryan Nyhus

MS III Instructor

SFC Ryan Nyhus is the assistant MS III instructor in the Spartan Battalion. He has served in the US Army for 13 years, holding every leadership position as an Infantryman from Team Leader through Platoon Sergeant. He is a two time All Army Combatives competitor and is a recipient of the Order of Saint Maurice. His assignments include: Fort Riley, KS, Fort Carson, CO, New England Recruiting BN, and Fort Hood, TX. He has deployed twice, Iraq ’07-’08, and Afghanistan ’10-’11, he has also completed two rotations to The Republic of South Korea ’15-’16 and ’17-’18.

CPT James Seguin

MS II Instructor

CPT James Seguin is the MS II instructor for the Spartan Battalion. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from Michigan State University and commissioned in 2010 as a Quartermaster Second Lieutenant through the MSU Army ROTC program. CPT Seguin as one combat deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and one humanitarian deployment to Liberia in support of Operation United Assistance. He most recently served as Company Commander for the Forward Support Company, 4th Engineer Battalion at Fort Carson, CO. CPT Seguin joined the MSU Army ROTC cadre for the 2019-2020 academic year.

MSG Juan Marquez

MS II Instructor

MSG Juan Marquez is the assistant MS II instructor for the Spartan Battalion. He is a native of Los Angeles, California with over 15 years of service as an Infantryman in the United States Army. MSG Marquez has held every leadership position from Team Leader to First Sergeant. MSG Marquez has five deployments in support of combat operations: Operation Enduring Freedom (2003 & 2005); Operation Iraqi Freedom (2004 & 2007), and Operation Inherent Resolve from January 2017 to September 2017.

MAJ Andrew Dalton

MS I instructor

MAJ Andrew Dalton is the MS I instructor for the Spartan Battalion. He graduated in 2007 from the State University of New York at Potsdam with a degree in Politics. MAJ Dalton commissioned into the Military Intelligence Corps, and his first duty assignment was with the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade at Fort Bragg, NC. MAJ Dalton deployed with the Brigade as a Battalion (BN) Intelligence Officer to Afghanistan. Upon completion of his time in the 82nd, MAJ Dalton went into the Active Guard/Reserve (AGR) Program. He served as the Assistant Operations officer in the 301st MI BN in Phoenix, AZ and later went on to become the Assistant S3 and a Company Commander in 549th MI BN in San Antonio, TX.

MAJ (Ret.) Thomas Enterline

MS I Instructor

MAJ (Retired) Thomas E. Enterline is the MS I Instructor (Contractor) for Spartan Battalion and retired in 2017 after 23 years of Active Duty. Originally enlisting in the Army in 1991 as a Signals Intelligence Analyst, Cryptologist, and Arabic Linguist, he attended MSU Army ROTC as a Green-to-Gold Cadet from 1998 to 2001 and commissioned in the Signal Corps. He has served in positions from Platoon Leader, Company Executive Officer, Company Commander, Aide-de-Camp, Brigade Signal Officer (S6), Battalion Executive Officer, and Joint Special Operations Command Signal Officer (J6). He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Human Resources from Michigan State, a Master of Science in Administration from Central Michigan, and is a graduate of the US Army Command and General Staff College. He has served in 3 combat deployments and has had assignments in Germany, Korea, Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan, Turkey, the Kingdom of Jordan, and all over the United States.

SFC Nathan Pledger

Military Science Instructor

SFC Nathan Pledger is the MS I instructor for the Spartan Battalion. He has over 19 years of service in the Army as an Infantryman. SFC Pledger has held every leadership position from Fire Team Leader to First Sergeant. He was assigned to the 2-12th Infantry Battalion 4/3IBCT, as a First Sergeant. SFC Pledger deployed with the 101st Airborne Division as part of Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom. He was a Drill Sergeant on Sand Hill at Fort Benning from 2005-08. SFC Pledger has 4 combat deployments in service of the United States Army.

Robert Sullivan

Recruiting Operations Officer

Robert Sullivan is the Recruiting Operations Officer for the Spartan Battalion. He graduated from the Citadel in 2000 and commissioned as a Field Artillery officer. He went on to serve in the 3rd BDE, 3rd ID during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. Robb deployed again in support of OIF in November of 2007 with the 4th BDE, 10th MTN DIV (LI). Mr. Sullivan came to the Spartan Battalion from various contractor positions with TACOM and the TSA. In addition to his duties here at MSU, he is currently a major in the US Army Reserve assigned as an Observer/ Controller Trainer with the 84th Training Command in Livonia, MI.

SFC Eric Sturgeon

Michigan Army National Guard On-Campus Recruiter

SFC Eric Sturgeon is the Michigan Army National Guard on campus recruiter (OCR). SSG Sturgeon has served in the Military for over 17 years between active duty, and the Michigan National Guard. SSG Sturgeon has been assigned to various locations within the military to include Ft. Stewart, Ga, Ft. Bragg, NC, Lansing, MI, and Taylor, MI. He has served as an Infantryman, Bradley Fighting Vehicle Driver, 3rd Infantry Division Honor Guard, Observer Controller/Trainer (OCT), Warrior Transition Unit Cadre, G3 MOB Plans NCO, and Recruiter. SSG Sturgeon has three combat deployments: 2003 OIF 1, 2005-06 OIF 3, and Afghanistan 2010-11.

Mr. John W. Pohl

Supply Technician

Mr. John W. Pohl began his career at the Spartan Battalion as the senior military science instructor. He retired from the Army in 2003, and assumed the supply technician position.

Ms. Susan L. Clemence

Human Resources Assistant

Ms. Susan L. Clemence is a human resources assistant. Sue started with ROTC in 1979, transferred to MSU in 1983.

Ms. Monica L. Bush

Administrative Technician (COMTek)

Ms. Monica L. Bush is a human resources assistant. Prior to coming to our department in 2004, she served for 13 years in the U.S. Army as an Admin NCO. She was stationed in Fort Hood, Texas; Fort Greely, AK; Ft. Leonardwood, MO; Mannhein, GE; and Heidelberg, GE.

Ms. Haida Lopez

Fiscal Officer

Haida Lopez serves as the Fiscal Officer for the Department Of Military Science. Prior to joining the ROTC department, Ms. Lopez worked at MSU’s Migrant Student Services Department as the Associate Director for the High School Equivalency Program. Haida has also served as a talent development manager at Michigan Works/ Kinexus in southwest Michigan. She also served as a regional manager for Telemon Corporation’s National Farmworker Jobs Program.

Ms. Adriana Feldpausch

Operations Manager

Adriana Feldpausch is the Operations Manager for the Department of Military Science. With over 23 years at Michigan State University, Ms. Feldpausch is experienced in faculty and student recruitment, admissions, and graduate/undergraduate student academic administration. She is also experienced in financial and operations management, event planning, fundraising, etc. She is bilingual in English and Spanish and holds a B.S. from Western Michigan University. She is also a certified Human Resource Specialist and has extensive experience in grant administration.
