Meals Ready to Eat (MRE): Basic Training Q&A
Drill Sergeant Jarman explains Meals Ready to Eat (MREs).
Hello, I'm Drill Sergeant Jarman from Wilburg, Virginia and Patty from Frontier, Wyoming asks; "What is an MRE?"
An MRE stands for Meals Ready to Eat, it is a pre-package meal that has been sealed to remain chemically and biologically protected. So your food stays fresh and does not get contaminated in a chemical environment.
And the other part of her question is "What is the difference in the C-rat my Uncle talks about (and he said they sucked) and how did they taste?" Well Betty the MRE was actually born from the C-Rat, which stands for C-rations, and yes they pretty much sucked.
The MRE and the pre-packaged meals have come along way in the past, and they've actually gotten a lot more varieties, and they taste a lot better and they're not too bad.
