As the most versatile ground force in history the Army utilizes many advanced weapons systems. Properly supplied with ammunition the Army is capable of overcoming any challenge. Ensuring that Soldiers on the ground are fully prepared to accomplish their mission is the role of the men and women of an Ammunition Stock Control and Accounting Specialist.

Ammunition, explosives, and weapons are known in the Army as "ordnance" and require highly specialized accountability in all aspects of management. Ammunition Stock Control and Accounting Specialists are tasked to maintain hardware and software systems and manual records required to successfully perform stock control and accounting procedures for ammunition and explosives to ensure ammunition and other ordnance are properly tracked, issued, and recovered. This career field requires individuals who have an interest in algebra, chemistry, physics, geometry and trigonometry, an aptitude for planning and organizing, an ability to communicate effectively and work calmly under stress.

After successfully completing 10 weeks of Army Basic Combat Training, you will attend Advanced Individual Training at Fort Lee, Virginia where you will train to use the standard Army ammunition system modernized software, known as SAAS, which is an automated ammunition management system. You’ll train to input information and to create reports. This includes training on automated inventory, issue, receipt, shipment, turn-in, and maintenance transfer of ammunition. In addition, you’ll assemble and operate the Very Small Aperture Terminal, or VSAT, to transmit information between the SAAS and the Total Army Munitions System, or TAMIS, through satellite communication.

After your Initial Entry Training and Advanced Individual Training, you’ll work supporting Army operations, performing automated stock control and accounting procedures for ammunition, explosives, and associated explosive components.
