![]() | MSG John FeilerSenior Military InstructorResponsible for training and operations of the WVU Mountaineer Battalion, MSIII Chief Instructor. Master Sergeant John M. Feiler hails from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He joined the Army as a senior at Burley High School in Burley, Idaho. After graduation he reported for One Station Unit Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri to become a Combat Engineer. Master Sergeant Feiler has proudly served the U.S. Army for over 22 years in a variety of leadership and special duty assignments with eight different organizations across the globe. His assignments include the 317th Engr. Bn, Camp Eschborne (former W. Germany), the 11th Engr. Bn, Ft. Stewart, GA, the Burlington, VT Recruiting Company, the 299th Engr Bn., Ft. Hood, TX, the 44th Engr. Bn, Camp Howze, S. Korea, the 91st Division, Ft. Carson, CO and the 9th Engineer Bn, Schweinfurt, Germany and finally here at West Virginia University "Mountaineers"where he currently serves as the Senior Instructor of Military Science and primary instructor of Military Science and Leadership 301 and 302 classes. Master Sergeant Feiler has served over 38 months in combat; first as a Sapper during Operations Desert Shield, Storm and Provide Comfort and most recently as a company First Sergeant in Operation Iraqi Freedom. MSG Feiler is a three-time selectee for the Engineer Brigade NCO of the year at various units, and represented the 24th Infantry Division as its NCO of the Year at the XVIII Airborne Corps NCO of the year competition in 1998. He was selected as the III Corps NCO of the Quarter, and is a member of the prestigious Audie Murphy Club. Additionally MSG Feiler was awarded the Major General Aubrey S. "Red" Newman Award by United States Army Forces Command (FORSCOM) for his commitment to developing Soldiers and has been awarded the Bronze DeFluery Medal for his extensive service to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Master Sergeant Feiler is a graduate of the Primary, Basic and Advanced Non-Commissioned Officer Courses and holds Special Skill Identifiers for graduating the Army Recruiters Course, Battle Staff NCO Course and the Instructor Trainer Course. Master Sergeant Feiler’s awards and decorations include: Combat Action Badge (1st Award), Drivers Badge (Wheel and Track), and the Army Recruiters Badge (Gold level) |
