University of Texas-Pan American

The University of Texas-Pan American is proud to celebrate25years of Commissioning young Americans as Army Officers.

Army ROTC began operation at this University on March 31, 1980 as an extension center of Texas A&I University (now Texas A&M-Kingsville).  However, enrollment grew at such an unprecedented rate that the University became a host ROTC institution on October 1, 1981.

A host ROTC institution at this university allows access to an Army officer program to students of the Lower Rio Grande Valley from Brownsville to Rio Grande City.  Active Duty as well as Retired Officers and Non-Commissioned Officers serve as Cadre for this organization and are responsible for its operation.

A Senior Army Officer entitled the Professor of Military Science (PMS) heads the Department of Military Science.  The department is a subordinate element of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences.
