The Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) Program at Georgia SouthernUniversity (GSU) was established in 1980. The first classes began in theFall Quarter of 1980 as an extension program of the Department of MilitaryScience, Mercer University.

 

In October of 1981, the program achieved host status was expanded when across-enrolled agreement was signed with Emanuel County Junior College in1983. Further expansion occurred in 1984 when the Departmentof Military Science assumed responsibility of the Army ROTC program atArmstrong Atlantic State College, Savannah State University and SavannahCollege of Art and Design as partnership schools.

 

From its infancy until today, the Eagle Battalion Army ROTC program has onlyone mission, to commission the future officer leadership of the United StatesArmy. Across all four campuses, only the highest quality students arerecruited and retained as ROTC Cadets. By graduation, only the best ofthese cadets receive a degree as well as a gold bar.
