Ranger challenge team

A team made up of freshmen through seniors, of both men and women.

“ There are many aspects of the program which are geared towards making a well-rounded and experienced leader. They range from classes, labs, physical training (PT), Field Training Exercises, etc. I also earned a spot to attend Airborne School last summer in Ft. Benning GA, where I completed my five jumps. ”

Christopher Kittle (St Lawrence),Westfield, NY

RANGER CHALLENGE

The Ranger Challenge is an opportunity for schools to "compete" with each other completing military tasks. In addition to a written examination where Cadets test their Army knowledge, there are physical fitness drills and field exercises. Battalions leave a Ranger Challenge with stronger bonds and sharper skills.

PERSHING RIFLES

The National Society of Pershing Rifles gives Army ROTC Cadets the opportunity to develop to the highest degree possible. Cadets can take part in precision trick rifle drill teams that provide them with the outstanding traits of leadership, military bearing and discipline.

Contracting Day

One of the first events held each year is Contracting day.  Scholarship Cadets, and cadets who are committing to the program sign their contracts and swear in.  Other welcome back activities include the welcome back BBQ and the rappelling lab.

Ranger Challenge

Ranger challenge is the varsity sport of ROTC.  The team starts practicing shortly after school starts and competition is fierce to be one of the 12 cadets who go to Fort Devens to compete against the other schools in the Brigade.  The competition consists of various soldier skills events such as shooting, marching, and employing hand grenades.

Commissioning Ceremony

The light at the end of the tunnel.  After listening to the inspirational words of the guest speaker, and swearing to “support and defend the Constitution to the United States against all enemies” you will receive your gold bar.  The symbol of your entry into the ranks of United States Army Officers.

Color Guard

You step out onto the ice of Cheel arena to a packed house as rival St Lawrence comes to town.  Your standing tall and looking good, as a member of the Army ROTC color guard.  Your representing the Golden Knight Battalion, the Army, and Clarkson during the National Anthem.  You'll feel the pride that comes with representing your unit, and the electricity that comes from a great hockey rivalry.

Field Training Excercises

Fall and spring the Golden Knights head to the field for the FTX.  Deploying from the "Barracks" in Old Snell Hall we head out to the local training area for day and night land navigation.  We transition into squad missions, and culminate in the much anticipated force on force platoon missions.  As you push your body and dodge the paintballs you’re learning what it takes to lead .  And that yummy MRE never tasted so good.
