Where it all began…

Located in the beautiful city of Fullerton, CA, the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps at Cal State Fullerton, the “Titan Battalion” was activated as an extension center under the Claremont McKenna College Army ROTC program in 1983. Twenty-five cadets initially enrolled in the Titan Battalion. They started a long and proud tradition of commissioned Army service originating from within the heart of ethnically diverse and densely populated Orange County, CA. The Titan Battalion curriculum was immediately approved by the university which allowed students to obtain a Minor in Military Science in conjunction with a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army, Army National Guard, or Army Reserve.

Over the years….

In 2002, the Battalion was designated a host battalion, effectively severing operational ties with the Claremont McKenna College program. The move called for the opening of billets for an Army Lieutenant Colonel to serve as Professor of Military Science and an Army Master Sergeant to serve as Senior Military Instructor, in addition to other cadre positions. Other moves included the establishment of a large supply annex.

In recent years…

In 2006, the Titan Battalion was awarded the General Douglas MacArthur Award for Best Small School Program in the Western Region, Cadet Command. In 2007, prompted by sustained growth enrollment, training and commissioning officer coupled by unparalleled support from the university. The Titan Battalion was designated by Army Cadet Command as a “Large” program signaling addition of more cadre, equipment and funding to accommodate the anticipated growth of the Corps of Cadets.

Currently, the Titan Battalion is the only Army ROTC program in the greater Orange County area. The Battalion enrolls cadets from seven major universities and over twelve community colleges spanning a radius of over 700 square miles. Mentored by a dedicated and experienced cadre, Titan Battalion cadets excel in all areas. A number of cadets have ranked well in the top 1% of graduates nationwide with many cadets performing well in the Leadership Development and Assessment Course and in other training opportunities each year. The Titan Battalion is a close-knit group of brothers and sisters who help and encourage each other through the daily challenges that face them as students, athletes and leaders. In all, they can all look back at their formative years in the Battalion with great fondness. The outstanding training and mentorship the cadets receive from the cadre during their time in the Battalion results in quality Army Officers. The Titan Battalion will be a strong and viable program for many years to come.
