Army ROTC at the Sample University over the years

ROTC at Bowie State University became an official “Host” Institution onOctober 15, 2001.  This made BSU ROTC their own unit, no longer attachedto another university.  Today, the ROTC program averages 30-45 cadets eachsemester.  These cadets include not only BSU students, but alsocross-enrollment students from schools such as; University of Maryland, PrinceGeorge’s Community College, Montgomery College and Strayer University.

The year 2001, ROTC brought back another tradition, Ranger Challenge, as an independent team.

This competition between schools is used to test skills and tactics during a2-day military training exercise.  This includes such events as anobstacle course, Army Physical Fitness Test and 10K Ruck Run, One-Rope Bridge,Patrolling Test, Orienteering and M-16 Qualification.  This years RangerChallenge team took first place in the third Division category, which will putthem in second division next year.  Congratulations!

These students learn the management and leadership skills necessary to be successful in any career, including the military.

The ROTC program offers cadets a different type of college course, learningto perform practical hands-on type leadership in a variety of situations.
