Battalion History

The faculty and administration at Alabama A&M University felt thestudent body should have an opportunity to compete for and receive commissionsas officers in the United States Army. The administration requested in 1970that a Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) be established at the Universityat the earliest possible time. The U.S. Army responded to the request and ArmyROTC was established in January 1971. The Army ROTC department commissioned theuniversities first 4 officers in May 1973
