DISTRACTED DRIVER TRAILER (DDT)
In the Army Distracted Driving Trailer, visitors learn about the consequences of not keeping their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel.
Every year, thousands of people are killed in motor vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers. Ten percent of drivers under the age of 20 involved in fatal crashes were reported as distracted at the time of the crash. Drivers in their 20s make up 27 percent of the distracted drivers in fatal crashes.
At any moment, about 660,000 drivers are using cell phones or electronic devices while driving. Five seconds is the average length of time your eyes are off the road while texting. When you’re traveling at 55 mph, those five seconds are enough time to drive the length of a football field.
