The PATRIOT Missile System is the Army’s most advanced mobile air defense weapon capable of neutralizing multiple air threats from tactical ballistic missiles and cruise missiles, to drones and advanced aircraft.

To effectively operate and maintain these sophisticated weapons systems, the Army relies upon the highly skilled men and women working in Military Occupational Specialty: Patriot Launching Station Enhanced Operator/Maintainer. Soldiers in this MOS work directly with the PATRIOT launching stations and their components, ensuring missiles are ready to fire the moment an airborne threat is detected.

Candidates for this MOS should have an interest in electronics, as well as missile and rocket operations. They should be physically and mentally fit, with the ability to multi-task while under pressure, and work as part of a team.

To qualify for this MOS, you must complete 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training followed by 13 weeks of hands-on Advanced Individual Training at Fort Bliss, Texas where you will learn artillery tactics and battle strategy as well as how to operate PATRIOT technology and rocket systems. After successful completion of training, you may be assigned to work supporting military operations around the world in the field, in an air defense unit responsible for transporting the loading equipment and PATRIOT launcher stations then emplacing and operating them in assigned locations

You may be expected to install the launcher platform and antennas load PATRIOT missiles, and prepare the system for firing. In addition, you may perform crucial electronic diagnostic procedures and basic preventative maintenance on the launcher station and its control systems including troubleshooting, conducting performance tests, and correcting any malfunctions as well as performing Battle Damage Assessment Repair. You may also be expected to establish and maintain radio and wire communications assist in preparing tactical map overlays interpret flow charts, and analyze data.

Skills learned while serving in this MOS such as teamwork, discipline, and leadership will help you transition from the Military to the civilian employment sector in virtually any career you choose. Overview

A PATRIOT launching station enhanced operator works directly with the PATRIOT launching stations. An important part of the Army’s air defense, the PATRIOT missile system can launch advanced-technology ammunition that is capable of neutralizing multiple air targets.

Requirements

Training

Job training for a PATRIOT launching station enhanced operator requires 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training and 13 weeks of Advanced Individual Training with on-the-job instruction. Part of this time is spent in the classroom and in the field under simulated combat conditions.
