CREATING BETTER CITIZENS THROUGH ARMY JROTC
The U.S. Army believes in developing leaders, regardless of their age or decision to serve in the military. That’s why the Army invests in JROTC, a program dedicated to instilling the values of citizenship, service, personal responsibility and a sense of accomplishment in students in secondary educational institutions across the country.
Founded in 1916, JROTC not only prepares students to succeed in post-secondary options and career pathways, but also encourages them to act with integrity in leadership positions and engage in civic concerns that affect their communities and society as a whole.
And students at all types of secondary educational institutions participate in JROTC – whether through public or private schools, through military institutes or academies, through alternative schools and correctional centers or through home schooling, JROTC can be an option for interested students.

Students who are in Army JROTC can increase their leadership skills and foster a truly collaborative spirit through multiple annual events. There are annual drill competitions, air rifle competitions, a Raider Challenge, the JROTC Leadership and Academic Bowl (JLAB) and CyberPatriot, a cyber defense competition for youth around the nation.
In addition, JROTC cadets and instructors annually contribute more than 7.4 million hours of community service and service learning to the nation. Through the program, cadets learn to make decisions that promote positive social, emotional and physical health for themselves and their communities. And in general, cadets excel in their attendance, graduation rates and GPA success.
Whether through competition or service, JROTC has a measurably positive impact on students, schools and communities. To learn more about how to establish a JROTC program at your school, visit this website.
