
U.S. ARMY PARTNERS WITH THE SOCIETY OF HISPANIC PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS (SHPE) TO HOST REGIONAL LEADERSHIP AND DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCES (RLDSC’S) IN NEW YORK CITY AND CHICAGO
The U.S. Army partnered with SHPE to sponsor two RLDC’s at the TKP Conference Center in New York City from March 1-3, 2018 and at the University of Illinois in Chicago (UIC) from April 5-7, 2018. The regional conferences promote leadership and career advancement opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). This is the fourth year that the Army has partnered with SHPE at a regional level.

At the 2018 SHPE RLDC’s, Soldiers shared expertise and discussed the importance of leadership and STEM career opportunities available in the Army during the “Leading Winning Teams: How to lead teams and empower your team to lead” workshop. The workshop brings a team together and empowers them to accomplish their mission. Throughout the workshop, the students explored core leadership concepts.

The partnership between the Army and SHPE is designed to promote leadership and STEM subjects at both the national and regional level. A group of engineers founded SHPE in Los Angeles, California in 1974. Their mission was to form a national organization of professional engineers to serve as role models in the Hispanic community.
