Master Sgt. Joshua Perry, who hails from Carmi, Ill., enlisted in the United States Army in March 2001 and attended Basic Combat Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. After finishing basic training he attended Advanced Individual Training at Fort Lee, Virginia. He graduating as a 92G, Food Service Specialist. Perry has served in multiple positions throughout his military career but now serves as the Enlisted Aide to the commander of the 101st Airborne Division and competes in multiple local, military and national culinary and ice carving competitions. He trained with Steve and Heather Brice, of Fairbanks N.C, who run the Ice Museum in Aurora, Alaska and the Annual International Ice Carving Competition in Fairbanks, Alaska. Perry added that advanced carving is done with chainsaw and large grinders equipped with specialized carving bits and chisels. He has been awarded five gold medals and one silver medal thru the American Culinary Federation.
