U.S. ARMY HIGH SCHOOL CHALLENGE SPARKS LEADERSHIP AND TEAMWORK
Currently in its seventh year, the High School Challenge tours the country connecting recruiters with top performing schools, students and educators. The High School Challenge is designed as a hands-on engagement experience, exposing students to scenarios that require agile problem-solving skills and physical strength, similar to the challenges today's Army Soldiers encounter on the mission field.
The Army trains Soldiers to become adaptable leaders, able to scope any problem and find solutions in diverse environments. Likewise, the High School Challenge exposes students to similar teambuilding scenarios that showcase how teamwork, adaptability and versatility are important factors in finding success as Soldiers and in life.
This year, the High School Challenge toured 50 high schools across the Nation. Soldiers engaged with students on the core strengths of fitness, education and teamwork, providing parallels between competitive athletics and outlining what it takes to be an Army Team Soldier. The entire school was invited to attend, allowing Soldiers to engage with students, school officials and sports team to further influence their perception and answer questions on U.S. Army careers upon graduation, while introducing them to local Soldiers to discuss scholarships and the many various career paths in the Army.
The program is aligned with core Army values and objectives, specifically STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), teamwork, leadership, adaptability and versatility. The layout and formal execution of the High School Challenge is what binds the overall experience and Army story for students. This event presents students with a unique opportunity to put their leadership and agility skills to the test as they communicate and compete against other students to win a four-part obstacle course.
Ultimately, the High School Challenge showcases the Army's versatility, scale and scope while raising awareness with prospects in regard to the available career options, specifically in STEM fields. The High School Challenge will resume in 2017, touring the country once more and exposing students to core Army Team values.
