Army Medicine at Work

A podcast series focusing on careers in Army Medicine will cover the lives of U.S. Army Officers focusing on various roles in the medical field. In each episode, listeners will meet an Army officer working on the front lines of research and medicine that has the potential to transform care for Soldiers and others around the world.
This series will bring insight on the groundbreaking work that’s being done by Army Medicine Officers, including research that aims to help Soldiers fight diseases or better understand their physical health. Many of their efforts ultimately have an effect on understanding overall human health and providing answers and insights to people all around the world.
The podcast series will look at topics through the experiences of medical professionals at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, including:
- Researching correlations in contracting malaria and the Army’s work to create a vaccine that has the potential to eliminate the disease globally,
- The journey of a physician leading clinical trials to help Soldiers in areas fighting infectious diseases,
- The Army’s Sleep Research Center, studying sleep’s effect on the body, and
- The Multi-drug Resistant Organism Repository Surveillance Network, better known as the MRSN, which helps combat bacteria resistance to antibiotics.

2018 AMEDD College Tour Teaches Students About Army Careers

This spring, the U.S. Army visited pre-medical students in southern California to share information about the Army’s Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP). The tour gave students a glimpse into the life of an active-duty Army physician, resident or other health professional and fostered discussions and consideration of all of their education and career options, including a path with the Army.
Students heard about the experiences of CPT Jason Lewis, an ophthalmologist in residency at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research and MAJ Nicholas Cahanding, an accomplished interventional radiologist at Brooke Army Medical Center, Department of Radiology at JBSA Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Both talked about the highlights of their careers in Army medicine.
