LTC Michael D. Vick

Professor of Military Science

Lieutenant Colonel Michael Vick grew up in Del Rio, Texas where he graduated from High School in 1986. He attended McMurry University on a partial pole vaulting scholarship before enlisting in the US Army in 1987. After completing his two year enlistment, Mike attended Southwest Texas Junior College for one year before entering Texas A&M University where he participated in ROTC as a member of the Corps of Cadets where he earned his BA in Journalism in 1993 and commissioned into the US Army as a Field Artillery Officer. After completing the Field Artillery Basic course, the Army assigned Mike to the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment in Fort Bliss, Texas where he served as a Fire Direction Officer, Platoon Leader, Executive Officer, and Tank Company Fire Support Officer. In 1997, the Army assigned Mike to the 3rd Battalion, 27th Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) battalion in Fort Bragg, North Carolina where he was promoted to the rank of Captain and given the honor to command an MLRS Battery. After completion of command, Mike served as the combat arms instructor with at the US Army Military Intelligence School in Fort Huachuca, Arizona. While at Fort Huachuca, Mike attended evening classes, ultimately earning his M.A. in English from the University of Arizona and granted membership in the Gamma Beta Phi Society in recognition of outstanding scholastic achievement. Subsequently, the Army assigned Mike to Fort Riley, Kansas where he trained National Guard units in preparation for deployment before being promoted to the rank of Major and entering the Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas where he studied advanced military operations, strategy and leadership. The Army then assigned Mike to the 210th Fires Brigade in Camp Casey, Korea for one year.  Subsequently, Mike served as an advisor to the 2nd Iraqi Army Brigade in Mosul, Iraq in an effort to transition the Iraqi Military to assume control of their country. Most recently, Mike served as the Executive Officer for the Texas A&M University Army ROTC program before being promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and reassigned to Creighton University as the Professor of Military Science. Mike is married to Shiloh Dodson Vick and has a 13-year-old daughter, Michaela, and an 11-year-old daughter, Susana. Mike's awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal w/3 Oak Leaf Clusters (OLCs), Army Commendation medal w/2 OLCs, the Army Achievement Medal w/2 OLCs, the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Valorous Unit Award, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal w/Campaign Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Combat Action Badge.

MSG Christopher Whitehurst

Senior Military Instructor

Master Sergeant Christopher Whitehurst enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1988 as an Infantryman.  Following Basic Training and Infantry Advanced Individual Training (AIT) he attended Airborne School and the Ranger Indoctrination Program (RIP) at Fort Benning, GA.  His first assigned unit was the 3rd / 75th Ranger Battalion at Fort Benning.  During his service with 3rd Ranger Battalion he participated in the airborne assault against Panama as part of Operation Just Cause.  While in 3rd Ranger Battalion he served as a rifleman, grenadier, automatic rifleman, ammo bearer, assistant machine gunner and machine gun team leader.  His next duty assignment while at Fort Benning was with 1st / 18th Infantry Battalion with the 24th Infantry Division where he attended training for the M2A2 Bradley Fighting Vehicle (BFV) course.  In 1992, he completed his four year term of service and opted to ETS from the Army.

In 1995, he returned to serve in the Army once again at Fort Stewart, GA and was assigned to the 3rd/15th Infantry Battalion with the 3rd Infantry Division. During his service with the 3rd/15th Infantry Battalion he attended the Primary Leadership Development Course (PLDC) and the Basic Noncommissioned Officer's Course (BNCOC) and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.  While in 3rd/15th Infantry Battalion he served as a grenadier, team leader and BFV Gunner.

Following completion of BNCOC he was assigned to HHC 1st Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division at Camp Casey, South Korea.  Initially he was assigned as part of Brigade S-5 security patrol but was soon promoted to Staff Sergeant and reassigned to Brigade S-2.  While assigned to the Brigade S-2 he served as the NCOIC of the internal security detachment for Camp Casey. 

Following his assignment in Korea he was reassigned to 1st/9th Cavalry (Infantry) Battalion with the 1st Cavalry Division.  During his service with the 1st/9th Cavalry Battalion he served as a squad leader, section leader, platoon sergeant and platoon leader and attended the US Army Drill Sergeant School at Fort Jackson, SC.

After completing Drill Sergeant School (DSS) he was reassigned to 2nd/28th Infantry, Basic Combat Training (BCT) Battalion at Fort Jackson, SC.  While assigned to the 2nd/28th BCT Battalion he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant First Class and served for 1 year and 5 months as a BCT Drill Sergeant.  After serving with 2nd/28th BCT Battalion he volunteered and was accepted to serve at the Drill Sergeant School as a Senior Instructor where he served for 1 year and 7 months for a total of 3 years as a Drill Sergeant.

Following his assignment at Fort Jackson he was reassigned to 3rd/8th Combined Arms Battalion with the 1st Cavalry Division.  During his service with the 3rd/8th CAB he served as the Scout Platoon Sergeant and deployed to Balad, Iraq for 15 months.  After returning from Iraq he remained with the 3rd/8th CAB and was promoted to the rank of Master Sergeant and was assigned to A Company as the Company First Sergeant.  While serving as the 1SG of A Company he again deployed to Iraq to the northern city of Mozul for 12 months.

Following his return from Iraq in December of 2009 he was reassigned to Blackwolve Army ROTC in Omaha, NE in March of 2010.

MSG Whitehurst's awards include the Bronze Star Medal (1OLC), the Meritorious Service Medal (2OLC), Army Commendation Medal (2OLC), Army Achievement Medal (5 OLC), Combat Infantryman's Badge (2nd award), Airborne Badge w/combat jump star device, Drill Sergeant Badge and the Expert Infantryman's Badge.

MSG Whitehurst's wife Tonya is from Washington D.C.  They have been married 7 years and have one son, Christopher, II.

CPT Edward C. Adams

Captain Edward Adams was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant of Aviation in May of 2003 upon graduating from Texas Christian University. He attended the Army's flight school at Fort Rucker, Alabama where he became an Army Aviator, flying the UH-60 Blackhawk. His first assignment was with the 82nd Airborne Division, where he served as a platoon leader, company executive officer, and assistant operations officer in 2-82 Assault Helicopter Battalion. He deployed with 2-82 AHB in January of 2007 to Kandahar, Afghanistan, where he spent 13 months as a Battle Captain and Battalion planner. After returning from Afghanistan, CPT Adams went to Fort Huachuca, Arizona where he attended the Military Intelligence Captains Career Course. Upon graduation from the MICCC, he went to Fort Riley, KS where he took command of A/3-1 Assault Helicopter Battalion as they transitioned from the UH-60L to the UH-60M and then deployed them to Camp Taji, Iraq. CPT Adams' decorations include the basic airborne wings, army aviator wings, combat action badge, Army Achievement Medal, Army Commendation Medal, NATO Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, and the Bronze Star.

Mr. Stephen M. Marvin

MS I Instructor

Mr. Stephen Marvin grew up in Kearney, NE.  He enlisted in the Nebraska National Guard in 1989.  He served 4 years as a PLL/TAMS clerk in the 195th Armor Battalion (Kearney, NE).  Major Marvin received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Nebraska at Kearney in Secondary Education in 1993.  He received his commission through the OCS (Officer Candidate School) program at the 209th Regional Training Institute (Ashland, NE) in 1992; and attended Armor Officer Basic Course at Ft. Knox, KY in 1993.

In his career as an officer, Major Marvin has served as: 

• Platoon Leader for A Company, 1st of the 195th Armor Battalion (McCook, NE)
• Support Platoon Leader for the 195th Armor Battalion (Kearney, NE)
• TAC (Teach, Advise, and Counsel) Officer for the 209th RTI (Ashland, NE)
• Asst. ADC Officer for the 41st RAOC (Lincoln, NE and Iraq)
• Company Commander for HHD 209th RTI (Ashland, NE)
• OCS Company Commander for the 209th RTI (Ashland, NE)
• Embedded Troop Trainer, (Afghanistan)
• Executive Officer for the 402nd Military Police Battalion (Omaha, NE)
• ADC Officer for the 41st ROC (Omaha, NE)

His first deployment was to Iraq during OIF 1 (2003-2004) with the 41st RAOC.  His second deployment was to Afghanistan as an embedded troop trainer (2007-2008).  His current assignment is with the 41st ROC as the Area Damage Control Officer.  Major Marvin has worked in the Army ROTC department of Creighton University as the Enrollment and Scholarship Officer (ESO) since January of 2008.  Prior to his service to Creighton, he served as the ESO for the University of Nebraska Lincoln's Army ROTC Department for 4 years.

SFC Carlos Rosales

Sergeant First Class Carlos Rosales enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1996 as a Field Artillery Cannon Crewmember.  Upon completion of OSUT (One station unit training) at Fort Sill, OK he was assigned to 1st Howitzer Battery (M198 Towed), 2nd Armored Calvary Regiment at Fort Polk, LA.  While in the 1st Howitzer Battery he served as an Advanced Party Member, Ammunition Team Chief and finally Howitzer Gunner. During his tour of duty at Fort Polk he attended the Primary Leadership Development Course (PLDC) and was promoted to Sergeant in 1999.

In the fall of 1999 he was reassigned to 3/7 FA (M119A1 Light), 25th Infantry Division Schofield Barracks, HI.  While assigned to 3/7 FA his duties included Howitzer Gunner and Chief of Section. In addition, he also attended the U.S. Army Air Assault School, Rappel Master Course, Air Force Load Planner course, Basic Noncommissioned Officer's Course (BNCOC) and was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in 2001.  During the summer of 2002 he was again reassigned stateside and became a member of 4/42 FA (M109A6), 3rd BCT, 4th Infantry Division Mechanized. In March of 2003 the unit was deployed as part of the initial assault in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Upon redeploying from OIF 1 he attended the US Army Drill Sergeant School at Fort Benning, GA.

After completing Drill Sergeant School, he was reassigned to 1st Battalion 79th Field Artillery Regiment, Basic Combat Training (BCT) at Fort Sill, OK.  For the next two years, he served as a Drill Sergeant and later assumed responsibility of being the Senior Drill Sergeant for Bravo Battery 1st BN 79th FA.

Following his assignment at Fort Sill, OK he was reassigned to 2nd Battalion 320th Field Artillery Regiment (Balls of the Eagle), 1st Brigade Combat Team (Bastogne), 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). During his service with 2-320th FAR he served as a Gunnery Sergeant and was shortly after made a Platoon Sergeant for Alpha battery during the Battalion's deployment in support of OIF 07-09.  Upon return from the 15-month deployment, SFC Rosales was selected to be a member of the Battalion Staff and assume responsibility as the Battalion Master Gunner in preparation for the follow on training cycle. He finally deployed once again with the Battalion, this time it was in support of OEF 10-11.  It was during the initial months of the deployment where SFC Rosales assumed full responsibility as the Battalion's Operation Sergeant for the duration and redeployment of the unit.

Following his return from Afghanistan in May of 2011, he was reassigned to Creighton University Army ROTC in Omaha, NE in September of 2011.   

SFC Rosales' awards include the Bronze Star Medal (3OLC), the Meritorious Service Medal (2OLC), Army Commendation Medal (4OLC), Army Achievement Medal (5 OLC), Combat Action Badge, Air Assault Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Drill Sergeant Badge and the Drivers Badge (Wheeled).

SFC Rosales' wife Melissa is originally from San Antonio, TX. They have been married for 12 years.

CPT Tamra L. Holub

ESO

Captain Tamra Holub was born at Lemoore Naval Air Station in Lemoore, CA.  After her father retired from the U.S. Navy, she was raised on a farm in Marion, KS.  During her senior year of High School, Tamra enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve. She attended Basic Combat Training (BCT) and Advanced Individual Training (AIT) shortly after her High School graduation in 2002.  In 2003 she began attending Fort Hays State University before she was mobilized for deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  Tamra deployed from January 2004 through March 2005 to Balad, Iraq with the 369th Transportation Company where she performed gun truck and line haul duties between the Forward Operating Bases (FOB) in Iraq.  Upon her return from deployment, Tamra attended Grantham University to complete her Bachelor's degree in Multidisciplinary Studies.  During this time she graduated as Distinguished Honor Graduate of Warrior Leader Course (WLC) and shortly thereafter was selected for a Direct Commission.  Tamra was pinned on 16 Nov 2006 from Sergeant (SGT) to Second Lieutenant (2LT).  Tamra attended Basic Officer Leader Course II at Ft. Sill, OK from January - February 2007 and then Transportation Basic Officer Leader Course at Ft. Eustis, VA from March - June 2007.  Tamra then served as Detachment Officer-In-Charge (OIC) of the 425th Transportation Company, Det. 1 from June 2007 through October 2008.  In February 2009, Tamra deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as a Gun Truck and Heavy Equipment Transporter (HET) Platoon Leader.  In April 2010, after returning from deployment, Tamra was mobilized to Des Moines, IA where she served most recently as the HHC Commander and G-3 Training Officer of the 103rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command.  Tamra's awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal w/ Oak Leaf Clusters (OLCs), Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal w/OLC, Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/M Device, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal w/3 Campaign Stars, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Combat Action Badge.

Nicole Kramer is originally from Lincoln, Nebraska and joined the Army Reserves her senior year of high school.  She spent 8 years in the Army Reserves as a Unit Administrator and did 3 tours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, 2 deployments to Kuwait, and 1 deployment to Iraq.  She is currently a Human Resources Technician for the Army ROTC program here at Creighton.
