Training for the Infantry starts with One Station Unit Training (OSUT), which means SGT Henry attended combined Basic Combat Training (BCT) and Advanced Individual Training (AIT). At Infantry School, SGT Henry focused on combat tactics and Army weaponsbecoming an expert in their maintenance and usemaking him not only a Soldier, but an Infantryman.

My name's Sergeant Maurice Henry. I'm an 11 Bravo, Infantry. Did Basic Training at Fort Benning, Sand Hill. It was One Stop Unit Training. So that means you do Basic Training and your job school together.
Physically, when I first joined the Army, they made me run two miles. I did it in 22 minutes. Now, I'm running two miles in 12 minutes and 30 seconds.
The OSUT training, they teach you a lot. They teach you the basics. And as an NCO, as a Sergeant now, I have to expand on those basic fundamentals.
Most MOS's just have one or two weeks of basic rifle marksmanship. We got into advanced rifle marksmanship and dealt more with machine guns and other special weapons.
Looking back on Basic TrainingI'd go back to Basic Training. It helped me learn to deal with stress and find out how much of a person I actually am. How much I can actually tolerate. That's probably one of the best times I had in the Army. |
