While attending AIT at the U.S. Army Armor Center, you will learn to play a central role in the modern combat operations that involve tanks and other tracked-vehicles. Your training will actually occur in what's called One Station Unit Training (OSUT), which means your Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training will be combined in one school.
During this AIT, you will be trained on the latest high-tech equipment, including vehicle operation and maintenance, surveillance, communications and weapons.
You will also gain experience in leadership and teamwork as you function as a member of a close-knit, highly skilled unit. You will develop self-confidence and discipline as you hone your critical thinking, writing and interpersonal skills.
During AIT at the Armor Center, you will gain the basic knowledge and hands-on skills to perform within one of two areas of study.
You will learn how to become a Commander's eyes and ears by conducting specialized reconnaissance missions to identify enemy activity. Cavalry Scouts are trained on more weapons systems than any other Soldier because of the diversity of firepower they employ on the battlefield.
You will learn about one of the most advanced tanks in the world, the M1A2. You will know how to utilize firepower, maneuver and shock effect to engage enemy targets.
