Our country's history is a record of heroes and events to be remembered with respect and honor. The Medal of Honor is the highest award given to military heroes for their actions that have helped form our nation's rich history. They are honored for their acts of heroism, for their "individual gallantry at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty."
The Medal of Honor is symbolic of the heroic acts that it is awarded for. Elements of the design represent victory, strength, wisdom and valor.
