Use the following instructions to help set up your wallpaper and screen savers, download and install the Army Tech Explorer and the Army Active Desktop. It may be helpful to print out this page.

How To Set Up Your Wallpaper

Windows

  1. Click on the pixel resolution you want (800 x 600 or 1024x768). Your wallpaper will appear in a new browser window.
  2. Right mouse click on the image and select "set as background."
  3. After your wallpaper appears, close the new browser window to return to the Army Downloads page.

Macintosh

  1. Click on the pixel resolution you want (800 x 600 or 1024x768). Your wallpaper will appear in a new browser window.
  2. Click and drag the image to your desktop.
  3. In System Preferences, select "Desktop."
  4. From "Desktop" select "Choose folder."
  5. Select "Desktop."
  6. Click on your chosen wallpaper image from the selection bar.
  7. Close "Preferences."
  8. After your wallpaper appears, close the new browser window to return to the Army Downloads page.

How To Set Up Your Screen Saver

Windows

Note: If you are not using Windows XP, you will need to use third-party software to extract files from the .zip archive. (Non-Windows XP users can download software and find instructions for use here: http://www.winzip.com.)

  1. Click on the "Windows version (.zip)" link.
  2. Save this file to your desktop. It will appear as a .zip file.
  3. Click on the file to unzip.
  4. Double-click the .exe file to install the screen saver.
  5. From your Start menu, select "Settings," then select "Control Panel."
  6. Click on "Display."
  7. Click the tab labeled "Screen Saver."
  8. Select the applicable file.
  9. Click "OK."

Macintosh

  1. Click on the "Mac OS X version (.sit)" link.
  2. Save this file on your desktop. It will appear as .sit file.
  3. Double-click on the .SIT file and Stuffit Expander will unzip the file.
  4. Double-click on the file and it will auto-install the screen saver. Your Mac System Preferences window will automatically open.
  5. Select the applicable file in the Screen Effects column.
  6. Close the window. Delete files from your desktop.

How To Set Up Tech Explorer

Windows

Note: If you are not using Windows XP, you will need to use third-party software to extract files from the .zip archive. (Non-Windows XP users can download software here and find instructions for use here: http://www.winzip.com.)

  1. Click the "Download Windows Version" button on the Tech Explorer web page.
  2. A "File Download" window will appear. Click Save.2. A "File Download" window will appear. Click Save.
  3. In the "Save In" pull down menu, select desktop.
  4. Click Save.
  5. The Tech Explorer download file will be sent to your desktop as a ".zip" file.
  6. Double-click the "TechExplorer.zip" file on your desktop.
  7. Double-click the "TechExplorerSetup.exe" button.
  8. A "Welcome" window will appear. Click "Next."
  9. An "Information" window will appear. Read the Terms & Conditions, then click "I Accept". Click "Next".
  10. A "Program Folder" window will appear, telling you where the application will be installed on your computer. You can choose the default location, or click "Browse" to choose a different location. Click "Next" to continue.
  11. A "Program Folder" window will appear. Click "Next".
  12. A "Start Installation" window will appear. Click "Next".
  13. Installation will begin automatically. Upon completion of installation, a shortcut to Tech Explorer will appear on your desktop.

Macintosh

  1. Click on the "Mac OS X version (.sit)" link.
  2. Save this file on your desktop. It will appear as .sit file.
  3. Double-click on the .sit file and Stuffit Expander will unzip the file.
  4. Double-click the folder called Tech Explorer.
  5. Click the Tech Explorer button to run the program.

How To Set Up The Army Active Desktop

Windows

  1. Click the "Download Windows Version" button on the Army Active Desktop web page.
  2. A "File Download" window will appear. Click Save.
  3. In the "Save In" pull down menu, select desktop
  4. Click "Save"
  5. The Army Active Desktop download file will be sent to your desktop as a ".zip" file.
  6. Double-click the "army_active_desktop_setup.zip" file on your desktop.
  7. Double-click the "army_active_desktop_setup.exe" icon.
  8. A "Welcome" window will appear. Click "Next."
  9. An "Information" window will appear. Read the Terms & Conditions, then click "I Accept". Click "Next".
  10. A "Program Folder" window will appear, telling you where the application will be installed on your computer. You can choose the default location, or click "Browse" to choose a different location. Click "Next" to continue.
  11. A "Program Folder" window will appear. Click "Next".
  12. A "Start Installation" window will appear. Click "Next".
  13. Installation will begin automatically.
