ike most parents, Kay was concerned when Travis enrolled in Army ROTC — she really didn't know what to expect. Once she saw how much thought and research went into Travis' decision, she became very supportive.
Within a few weeks of enrolling in Army ROTC, Kay noticed a maturity and discipline that she hadn't seen before in Travis. While most college students' only obligation their first year is their classes, ROTC provided Travis with an additional commitment to keep him focused. Travis learned to manage his time well to get the most out his college experience. Kay realized that ROTC was quickly making a man out of Travis.
"With ROTC it gave him that social outlet, it gave him that bonding of friendship, it taught him how to be responsible with other people, and it taught him how to manage his time and his life overall in general."
Army ROTC not only motivated Travis to be a better student, it also made him physically stronger, taught him the fundamentals of leadership and instilled more confidence in him. ROTC also gave Kay more confidence about Travis' decision. "I can trust him. I can trust the education that he got. It's made my job as a parent so much easier. I feel very good about his choice to go into ROTC."
