ort Knox may be far from Phyllis' home in Arizona, but she's still able to keep track of her son's continuing growth. The Army allows a lot of freedom at this stage of Antoine's career, which means she can easily keep in touch with him.
"We talk quite frequently and we do a lot of emails with him and his wife also," she says. "About once every six months, we're able to visit in person, if either I'm going to his Post or wherever he's located, or he comes here for a little R&R."
Antoine is first and foremost a Soldier.
Yet he also has to balance his Army job
with family life and college studies–all
while keeping an eye on the
future. And Phyllis is making
sure he stays firmly focused.
“Everything is lined up and I
feel real good and real
comfortable about his decision
and continuing on with his
education," she says. "I can
see a career young man
sitting right next to me.”
But what kind of career is Antoine headed for? At 26 years old, he has many options. He can make a career out of the Army or make a well-equipped return to the civilian world. With his degree, he can be a computer technician or software
programmer. With his Army
experience, he can
achieve greatness.
“I'm very proud of
the choices that
Antoine has made
and I would be happy
with whatever decision he
chose as far as his career. Seeing him now, a married young man with a bright prospect on his future, I've just seen a fantastic change.”
