Buddy and Deb Wood, Parents of SPC Jodie Wood
Buddy and Deb's daughter, Jodie, joined the Army in the fall of 2004. It was a decision that changed the entire family–for the better. And the positive changes continued during Jodie's first experiences with Army training. To learn more about the Wood family, read their story.
What are the enlistment options for my son or daughter?
"The Army definitely offers young people a good option which I would never have considered before our daughter presented it to us. We always felt you go to elementary school, you go to high school, you go to college and then you have a career. I didn't think the Army was going to be that career, but I think it's a very good option considering what we've learned over the past six months or so." – Deb
What kinds of benefits does the Army provide?
"The Army provides medical, dental, eye care and her paycheck. Those would be the benefits that I would know about other than the benefits that Jodie reaps from being a part of the Army and staying physically fit and learning an additional job." – Deb
Is the Army a good option for my young adult?
"I think if I had any advice to offer a parent, in regard to whether you think the Army is a good option or not, it would be: have a chance to talk with a Recruiter. See what the Recruiter can tell you. Have your young person research it. I mean, that's how our daughter convinced us that this is what she was going to do." – Deb
How will I communicate with my son or daughter?
"The letters to Jodie were important, but sometimes the letters back were pretty darn important. I don't know if they realized how important the letters back to the parents are. Because they are so busy, when they can find the time to jot a note down, it's really good." – Buddy
