WITH A CHAPLAIN AT THEIR SIDE, SOLDIERS KNOW GOD IS WALKING WITH THEM

In times of conflict, the role of a Chaplain can be even more important than in peacetime. Soldiers who are deployed endure stress stemming from their fears and separation from their loved ones; but it is also a time to strengthen their faith. In these situations, a Chaplain is not only a counselor and mentor, but a friend. See why the Chaplaincy offers a challenging and rewarding ministry—especially during times of war.

The Rewards of Faith
Protestant Chaplain Charles Yost sat down for an interview and told GoArmy.com what it was like to be away from his loved ones while serving with Soldiers during Operation Iraqi Freedom II. While he missed those back home, he knew that he and his Chaplain Assistant SGT Stevie Mick were tasked with a rewarding mission.

A Ministry of Presence
Read in his own words what it was like for the Protestant Chaplain Steven Balog to be in a forward combat area as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. As a Chaplain with past Soldiering experience, he knew what his Soldiers—like Staff Sergeant Robert Allen and Sergeant First Class Talmadge Bennett, Jr.—were going through.

Changing Perceptions
Father Paul Madej (pronounced MED-ee) has an immense effect each day on the lives of his Soldiers. Read how he traveled great distances to spiritually tend to all the Soldiers in his unit, how he affected First Lieutenant Vincent Mucker and how he made inroads with the Muslim religious leaders in the area.
