Inside the Band

Soldier's talk about the School of Music.

Allen: I actually loved the School of Music, it’s like an extension of being in college you have so many hours to practice and I never really had that in college. So I just got to focus on me and focus on my sound and tone and technique and I just loved having all that time to practice and get better.
Edwards: I really enjoyed it, it’s in Virginia Beach and I got to live off-post with my family got to come and we lived right on the beach. So just living conditions, I loved it there. I‘d love to move back to Virginia Beach. It’s a little different than basic training obviously, a little more laid back, not so much Army stuff. Being in the Army Band is a little bit more easy going, so I think it’s a little bit more fun.
Emch: When I got to the School of Music it was kind of hard, cause I come from a drum set background and you still do a lot of traditional marching and ceremony and I’ve never done that before. So I spent my whole 6-months of AIT basically really learning rudimental Snare drum and some mallet percussion too, some Rumba. It was a little bit different than I thought it was going to be.
