Steady employment, pay raises, promotions

I’m Major Myles B. Caggins the Third, and I am an Army officer. Currently I serve as the spokesman and communications director for the First Armored Division at Fort Bliss, Texas. Since I’ve graduated college, I’ve been employed every single day for the past 15 years, and every year I’ve had the benefit of receiving a pay raise and promotions along the way. The Army has probably provided at least a hundred thousand dollars in education benefits for me directly. Really, the greatest benefit is the opportunity to serve. And I take it seriously that there’s only one percent of Americans who wear the uniform, and of them, only about 0.1 wears the uniform of a military officer. It’s not for everybody. But if you’re the kind of person out there who’s doing student government, if you’re on a sports team, if you’re the one who people rally around, then being an Army officer is possibly for you. It’s an option that anybody should consider if they like being part of a team, and if they like leading that team.
