Racing Episode 07

U.S. Army Race Teams take full advantage of the latest technologies.

The technology is growing faster than we can use it.
Technology has come a long way in our sport to lighten parts, strengthening parts, make them faster.
What happens is you get so much information, wind tunnel data, different aero packages, the seven post machine, push up rig, the shock values.
Anything we can do to lighten up our race car is what were doing.
Try to make the race car go fast.
A lot more engineering, a lot more technology has come into this sport. NHRA the sanctioning body had to start slowing it down because the cars were almost going too fast.
You know our clutch apartment, our cylinder heads, our fuel system, there's always something evolving, kind of top secret stuff. There's not a time were we don’t roll up in the lanes that there's not four or five different crew members from every team looking at our car as it rolls by.
If you do have one little secret, you don’t want to give it away. You’d be surprised how many teams that hire people just to go walk around the race track and take pictures of peoples stuff.
There is things that we will contact the army about. Just say “Hey we’re thinking about doing this, you know, do you have any technology?” like our tow strap on our car that we tow it around with. We were trying to think of a better release mechanism for it. They have a mechanism on their parachutes that if a parachute fails they pull this wire.
They sent us a working solid model of it and were going to go and make some now. The technology that the US army has is just so vast. Every once in awhile we get to use a little bit of it.
