Training Soldiers to be better, faster, stronger

Major Eric McCoy finds that “The Army’s strength is in its people… it’s about the Soldier.” As an officer, the Army “has provided a lot of purpose and direction andmotivation to me.”

My name is Eric McCoy. I’m a major in the United States Army. I’ve always been interested in military. I grew up in the 80s watching B.A. Baracus on The A Team. I came to like the uniforms and the discipline. The Army teaches me how to plan; teaching me about officership and leadership has really afforded me the opportunity to pursue those goals that I have for myself. It provided a lot of purpose and direction and motivation to me. The Army strength is in people. It’s not necessarily tanks. Whether it’s 2011 or 1776, it’s about the Soldier. Being an officer in that means training and developing that Soldier each day to be better, faster, stronger than he was or she was the day before. And that’s what “Army Strong” means to me.
