2013 Football Day 3 - US Army All-American Bowl
I'm feeling good. The defense moves around a lot. We're out here with the best receivers in the country, but you know you're getting better. So it's just using your technique when you get out on the field and competing.
Major General Jefforey A. Smith:
You all represent excellence. You all represent hard work. That uniform you have on your body out there on Saturday afternoon.
If you look at the parallel of the Armed Service and the Army and football, they're very, very much alike. But the one thing that I'm impress upon the young men that we're coaching this week is the discipline, how hard it is, the commitment that you must have, and because of their sacrifice and what it stands for then we're allowed to have this game.
Purpose, passion, commitment and discipline, you got to have a plan. It's got to be in your heart and you have to carry out that plan. And that's how you make it, that's how you become something special.
When I look at these young people and the other choices they have out there for All-American games to choose this one lets me know that they are in connection with what these values are that the Army is stressing.
Whether its football or the Army you have to be committed to what you're doing. You just got to keep on fighting. In the back of our minds we have to remember that there are a lot of people in the country or in the world can say that they're playing for the U.S. Army.
