Your responsibility as an Army Podiatrist is to provide surgical services to Army Soldiers and personnel, but you'll also have the chance to gain valuable experience by caring for family members and Army retirees. And, since you'll be practicing podiatry as an Officer in the Army Medical Service Corps, you may be given the opportunity to apply for schools such as Air Assault and Airborne.
To qualify for an appointment as a Podiatrist in the Army Medical Service Corps, you must:
- Have a Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine (D.P.M.) degree from an accredited program acceptable to the Surgeon General
- Have an active license to practice podiatry in the United States
- Have completed a three-year surgical residency before direct accession or be accepted for one of the Army's Podiatric Surgical Residency programs
