Providing direct patient care to Army personnel and their families will be your top priority as a member of the Army Optometry Health Care Team. You'll be involved in detecting, preventing, diagnosing, treating and managing ocular-related injuries, diseases and visual dysfunction. Army Optometrists can pursue careers in clinical practice, teaching, aeromedical research, residency training, vision conservation and readiness, optical fabrication laboratory management and general management and administration.
To qualify for an appointment as an Optometrist in the Army Medical Service Corps, you must:
- Have a Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree from a school or college of Optometry acceptable to the Surgeon General
- Have a current, full and unrestricted license to practice optometry in the United States, U.S. territories or the District of Columbia
