As an Active Duty Dentist in the Army, you will get the chance to specialize much sooner than you probably could in private practice. Plus, Army Dentists have the opportunity to cross-train in many different dental specialties.
In addition to general dentistry, there are several other specialties found within the Army Dental Corps:
- Comprehensive Dentist
- Endodontist
- Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon
- Orthodontist
- Pediatric Dentist
- Periodontist
- Prosthodontist
- Public Health Dentist
- Oral Pathologist
Dental Corps Requirements
To qualify for an Officer appointment in the Army Dental Corps, you must:
- Meet the prescribed medical and moral standards for appointment as a commissioned Officer
- Be a United States citizen
- Be a graduate of an American Dental Association (ADA) accredited dental school
- Have a current unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a state of the United States, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico or a territory of the United States
- Be 21-42 years of age (dentists 42 years of age or older may apply for an age waiver)
- Experienced health care professionals ages 43 to 60 years old may apply for the new two-year service obligation option.
- Have a favorable security investigation completed.
