LEARN THE SKILLS FOR FIGHTING FIRES

The role of Army Firefighter is very important. Taking AIT at the Department of Defense Fire Academy will give you the same skills learned by many civilian firefighters.

During this AIT, you will learn the following skills:

  • Fire Protection Fundamentals
  • Fire Behavior
  • Fire Alarm Communications
  • Building Construction
  • Fire Prevention
  • Emergency Medical Care
  • Responder Skills
  • Structural Firefighting Principles
  • Forcible Entry
  • Ropes, Knots and Rescue Practices
  • Rescue Activities and Vehicle Extrication
  • Ladder and Ventilation Practices
  • Structural Fire Ground Operations
  • Water Supplies
  • Hazardous Material Responder
  • Aircraft Rescue Firefighting

When you complete this AIT, you will have the certification as a Firefighter II (hazardous material awareness and operations level) and as an Airport Rescue Firefighter. All are college-accredited classes, totaling 24 semester hours. The course is Department of Defense accredited, which benefits you throughout your military and/or civilian career.
